Restrictive practices have traditionally been used in aged care to manage behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia.
The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (Commission) is committed to minimising risks to recipients of aged care (Care Recipients) and ensuring they are treated with dignity and respect.
The use of restrictive practices in Care Recipients must always be a last resort, in the least restrictive form possible, and for the shortest time.
This module is part 1 of 2 in this course. This first part explains what restrictive practices are in aged care and their impact on the rights of Care Recipients.
