Overview

Due to primary prevention, through national cervical screening and vaccination programs, cervical cancer is one of the most preventable cancers in Australia.

This module provides an overview of cervical cancer and the human papillomavirus (HPV) and an update on current cervical screening processes.

Learning Objective

At the end of this module participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the main types of cervical cancer and their causes and risk factors.
  • Explain how human papillomavirus (HPV) can progress to cervical cancer development.
  • Describe the process for cervical screening tests including frequency and eligibility for routine screening.
  • Discuss risk level allocation for cervical cancer development.
  • Identify cervical screening considerations for specific groups.
